Double Staffs grew in Ase’s repertoire shortly after contact staff. Concepts from Poi were easily converted into double staff moves. Shortly after that Ase’s style with double staffs allowed him to flow more and focus less on specific tricks or moves.
Brief History of Double Staffs:
The history of double staff or batons obviously has ties into a single staff. Who ever decided to cut a staff in half and use it as two remains somewhat of a mystery. Baton twirling history leads us towards Eastern Europe and Asia where they were performed at festivals by marching bands. Militarys also started to twirl rifles in the same aspect for public show. Baton twirling is now considered a sport and many countries have championships for the art.
